History of Piran Kaliyar Sharif Dargah Piran Kaliyar Sharif Dargah, located near Roorkee, Uttarakhand, is one of the most revered Sufi shrines in India. It is dedicated to Hazrat Alauddin Ali Ahmed Sabir Kaliyari, a great Sufi saint of the Chishti order, who is also known as Sabir Pak. Who Was Hazrat Sabir Pak? He was born in 1196 CE in Herat, Afghanistan, and later moved to India. He was the nephew and spiritual disciple (murid) of Baba Fariduddin Ganjshakar (Baba Farid), another prominent Sufi saint. He settled in Kaliyar, near Roorkee, and spent his life in deep meditation and spiritual service. He is considered the founder of the Sabiriya branch of the Chishti Sufi order. His teachings emphasized love, devotion, and service to humanity, regardless of religion or caste. Establishment of the Dargah Hazrat Sabir Pak passed away in 1291 CE, and his mausoleum (dargah) was built at Kaliyar Sharif in his honor. The shrine was constructed under the patronage of the Mughal emperors and has since become a major spiritual center. Significance of the Dargah The dargah is visited by people of all faiths, reflecting the universal message of Sufism. It is believed that prayers and wishes made here are often fulfilled. Every year, a grand Urs festival (death anniversary) is celebrated with qawwalis, prayers, and langar (free food distribution).
